The secret to my success? Having a friend with a radio show. It’s all who you know. Okay, and I’m at least a little entertaining. Here was our first episode.

Where am I going with my comedy stuff, I can’t say. In some ways I feel like I’m at the tail end of my comedy career, close to sixty, not really drawing in the crowds. Getting a laugh here and there, but almost a washout.

Then I remind myself that I just stated doing this seven years ago, and have been doing it only very sporadically. I spared myself the decades of bullshit, long drives for terrible gigs, the drugs, the disappointment. I cut right past all that and now am just having fun with it. Except when I’m not, but mostly I am.

And on a good day I can still imagine that this is the start of my meteoric rise, although as previously noted, one thing meteors are not known for is rising. Who came up with that phrase? Perhaps the same guy who came up with “I could care less.”

That’s a little bit I’m kicking around, maybe I’ll work that in.

I just did another interview with Daedalus, always great talking with him. Listen to his podcast, it’s fantastic.

My next performance is tomorrow, Sept 3 at the Barrel Proof in lovely downtown Santa Rosa.

Here’s a bonus: I did a story-slam at The Moth. This was years in the making.

Hey, I'm lookin' for left-wing comedians to sometimes do spots on my shows.

I figured why not? So I sent in this bit I did at a fundraising event.

He passed, but offered some constructive feedback:

I'm looking for someone with a little more experience, but you definitely have something. Keep at it. My only feedback would just be to know your stuff so well that there's essentially no pauses. It's weird but just a moment of a comic going "Umm" and trying to think what's coming next can get a crowd to jump off the train (or bus or EV).

OK, this is encouraging! Now if I can just get an um-ectomy…

I know the answer. Practice. And focus!
